Issue Description

Bulletin of Islamic Research Volume 4, Issue 3 presents six selected articles that collectively engage with the contemporary theme of Islamic Texts, Contemporary Muslim Societies, and Global Challenges. Consistent with the journal’s identity as a platform for interdisciplinary studies on Islamic texts, lived Islam, and contemporary Muslim societies, the articles explore diverse yet interconnected issues, ranging from Qur’anic epistemology and linguistic interpretation to Islamic law, family studies, da‘wah, international politics, and the dynamics of juristic thought. Together, these contributions demonstrate how classical Islamic scholarship continues to provide meaningful perspectives for understanding and responding to present-day social, intellectual, and global challenges.

The issue opens with an epistemological investigation of the concept of the Seven Earths in the Qur’an through classical and modern tafsir traditions, followed by a socio-legal analysis of the relationship between dowry practices and marital harmony in Indonesian Muslim communities. It also examines the implications of the USA/Israeli conflict with Iran for global peace, explores the Qur’anic concept of an-naum subāta in relation to contemporary understandings of human detoxification, synthesizes empirical evidence on the effectiveness of contemporary da‘wah strategies, and concludes with a study of the causes behind differences among Islamic jurists concerning the principles of uṣūl al-fiqh. Collectively, these articles highlight the relevance of Islamic scholarship in addressing contemporary questions through rigorous textual analysis, empirical inquiry, and interdisciplinary engagement.

Author Country Coverage

This issue features contributions from authors representing diverse academic and geographical contexts across the Muslim world, including Nigeria and Indonesia. This international representation enriches the journal’s scholarly dialogue, promotes cross-regional academic exchange, and reflects the global scope of contemporary Islamic research.
